2014 Asst. Professor, TU München Prof. Benz (1977) grew up in Bremen, studied Biology at the TU Braunschweig (2003), and prepared his thesis in the lab of Prof. Crawford at the UC San Diego (CA). He subsequently got his PhD from the LMU München working in the group of Prof. Soll (2009) on protein transport into chloroplasts and then moved back to the States to become a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Prof. Chris Somerville at the Energy Biosciences Institute (UC Berkeley, CA), where he started to work on filamentous fungi. He was appointed Asst. Prof. (tenure track) at the TU München in August 2014.
